Each summer, historic Rattenberg Castle becomes home to memorable outdoor theater performances. This year, “Brother of Sleep” will be staged from late June to early August.
“Schlafes Bruder” (“Brother of Sleep”) is a novel by Austrian writer Robert Schneider that was first published in German in 1992. It was an international success and was adapted into a feature film and an opera, among others. The story of Johann Elias Alder, a 19th century peasant who could not read music, but could hear and could imitate every sound in the world. He learned to play the organ and his concert--to which he arrived barefoot--was a sensation. Too gifted for his station, he committed suicide by not sleeping. Stefan Hellbert has adapted the rural novel for the stage of the Rattenberg Castle Theater Festival. “Brother of Sleep” will be performed there from June 28 through August 02, 2024.
